  • Characteristics of ASD
  • Diagnosis and assessment
  • Cognitive profiles and ranges of ability
  • Executive functions
  • Theory of mind
  • Sensory difference
  • Social and communication skills
  • Challenging behaviour
  • Effective instructional practices
Application of Theory to Classroom Practice:
  • Behaviour observation
  • Data collection & analysis
  • Positive behaviour supports
  • Environmental/antecedent supports
  • Teaching approaches including:
    -direct instruction
    -differentiating curriculum
    -cognitive/behaviour interventions
    -augmentative communication
Participants will gain the basic understanding and skills needed to provide
quality instruction and supports for students with ASD.

***Due to the pending relocation of our program to the Pacific Autism Family Network in the 2017-2018 school year, all POPARD courses for the upcoming school year are tentative and are subject to cancellation. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause - payment for courses will not be required until dates are confirmed.***
The Introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorders - Practical Applications course is open to BC School District / independent school personnel.

If you are not employed by a BC School District or independent school and would like to register for this course, you must first complete this online application for POPARD's review. Upon acceptance, POPARD will notify you to process your registration and payment.


A non-refundable administration fee is required for all POPARD courses. This is $75 for the ASD course and must be paid once your application is approved and your registration is processed.

If you are not an employee of a BC School District/independent school, tuition for the ASD course is an additional $300. Tuition fees are not refundable if we receive your request for refund within 2 calendar weeks of the first day of class (all refunds are subject to a processing fee).

NOTE: Fees paid to POPARD for courses held at POPARD are not transferable to courses held in school districts or other locations.
